Rajasthan Royals 147-5 (Pathan 62no, Smith 44no) beatDelhi Daredevils 143-7 (de Villiers 50, Patel 2-14) by five wicketsScorecardIndian Premier League, Centurion Park
Yusuf Pathan smashed six sixes on his way to an unbeaten 62 in 30 balls that drove the Rajasthan Royals to a five-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils in Centurion Park with nine balls to spare.
The result, coming when the Royals reached 147 for five having restricted the Daredevils to 144 for five, means that Deccan Chargers remain the only unbeaten team in the league.
The Daredevils elected to but were soon in trouble as Dimitri Mascarenhas removed Virender Sehwag for eight and Gautam Gambhir for 16. Tillakaratne Dilshan (7) and Dinesh Karthik (4) also fell cheaply and the innings was in desperate need of salvaging.
The fightback came from AB de Villiers, who stroked 50 in 40 balls before he was adjudged to be out lbw to Shane Warne but late runs from Daniel Vettori (29) and Mithun Manhas (23) gave their bowlers something to work with.
Munaf Patel and Warne joined Mascarenhas in taking two wickets.
The Royals tried a new opening combination with Rob Quiney (4) partnering Graeme Smith, but he fell lbw to Ashish Nehra and when Swapnil Asnodkar (11), Paul Valthaty (4), Ravi Jadeja (16) and Warne (0) were all dismissed quickly, the Daredevils were well on top with the score 64 for five.
Incredibly, the Royals were not to lose another wicket. Smith anchored the innings from one end while Pathan took off from the over, crashing Vettori for two sixes in two balls before meting out similar maximum punishment for Nehra and Amit Mishra although he was lucky to be dropped at long on by Pradeep Sangwan.
In amongst the chaos, Mishra picked up three for 34 and Nehra one for 23 but nothing was going to stop Pathan's charge. He won the Royals their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders in a Super Over but with him in the sort of mood he was today, every over was a Super one for the Royals, if not the Daredevils bowlers.
Smith was unbeaten on 44, having faced 46 deliveries while Pathan also hit three fours.
